Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this “His & Her’s” pair of original circa 1880 English Mahogany framed wingback library armchairs with the original distressed green leather upholstery

A good looking and well-made pair, its very rare to find these with the period upholstery, it is worn and has lots of fading and patina as you can see in the pictures, all of which adds to the charm and sophistication of the chairs. They come with what’s called summer cushions, they are upholstered in fabric not leather, the idea being in summer its hot so you don’t want to be sitting on hot leather but cool fabric

Condition wise we have cleaned waxed and polished them from top to bottom, the Mahogany frames are exquisite and strong and stable, the leather has patina all over, most notably in the hard wearing areas like the arms which have all had some restoration

For me keeping these original was important because its taken well over 140 years to achieve this look and feel, it would be a crime in my humble opinion to erase all of that character

Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
