I purchased these two limited edition lithographs at an Art Fair about 30 years ago. At the time, I had no idea that I was shaking hands with a soon-to-be artist celebrity, Nancy Strailey.
Both lithographs are hand signed and numbered.
The “running wild” scene has a hand-written quote from Albert Eistein in the background. It says, ” The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the only source of the art and science, and he to whom emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder or stand rapt in awe, is already half dead; his eyes are shut.” The piece is framed magnificently with triple matting in complimentary earthy colors. The frame does have one blemish and I have photographed that spot for you to view. This piece is 11.5 inches wide, 17 3/4 inches long and is professionally framed, ready to hang.
The framed litho of the three elephants is a watercolor and pen piece. It is also signed and numbered. The paper is slightly different in that the deckled edge is showing inside the double mat (again, in beautiful complimentary colors). This print is also perfectly preserved, but the frame does have blemishes, which I’ve shown in the photos. This piece is 17 3/4 wide by 13 1/2 long. Together they pair nicely on a wall.
More about Nancy H. Strailey:
Award winning African wildlife artist, Nancy Strailey, uses colored pencils on hand made papers from around the world to create her unique and evocative drawings. In an on going exploration of her place in a 30,000 year long continuum of animal and cultural image-makers, Nancy studies animals at sanctuaries and preserves, and most recently through numerous trips to Africa.
The drawing process begins by gathering the materials – papers rich in natural color and interesting texture; pencils, lots of pencils, nearly every color of professional – quality pencil in every brand available, and graphite sketches of animals and artifacts which Nancy has gleaned from her travels.
Each drawing is designed in a series of planning sketches, which are then combined on the exotic paper the artist feels most suitable. Next careful, light layers of colored pencil are patiently overlaid to achieve the visual richness that is the hallmark of Nancy Strailey’s coveted drawings.
