These chairs were made by hand in our Brooklyn studio, featuring a carved and scrolled crown (backrest), wedged through tenons, h-stretcher undercarriage, and scooped and beaded seat. Commodious proportions with excellent ergonomics and comfort, the original archetype of the captain’s chair was used for lighthouse attendants, designed for relaxed comfort for long periods of time, this shape is also sometimes referred to as a “smoker’s bow” so named due to its favored status in social clubs and reading rooms throughout the u.k and u.s. This shape has influenced modern design as well, with interpretations from the inimitable Nakashima (captain’s chairs), and countless others.
The back of the crown features a custom engraved brass plaque with the club’s famous winged foot logo superimposed over crossed golf clubs.
