This is a late 19th century Clerk’s Estate High Chair as used at a Clerk’s Desk in the late Victorian period, circa 1880, now very useful as a kitchen chair at a breakfast bar.
The chair is made of beech with a shaped elm seat and a nicely curved back having a solid central vertical splat. The tall legs are connected by six rectangular stretchers with pegged mortise and tenon joints which makes the chair very strong.
This chair could be used at a high desk as intended or as a tall chair at a breakfast bar in a kitchen setting or simply as an individual display chair in any area of the home or office.
The chair has a good mellow color.
